From the studio - May and June

I have had lots of time at the studio over the last couple of months and partly due to having a repetitive strain injury have had a rest from linocutting and printing.
These forced changes often take you out of a comfortable zone as they have for me but I'm loving painting again and making new assemblages for a group show coming up in August at Chrissie Cotter Gallery in Camperdown (Inside Out).
My current works are still interpretations of imagery from our Australian road trip (2010).
I've picked up on a few images that began life as prints and focussed on patterns from them repeating and playing with placement and scale.
You can view some of the works on the new works page.
I have put some old Cuisenaire blocks to use in pocket works (100mm square). These blocks represent the numbers 1-10 (1 being off white and a small cube), each number is a different colour and length depending on unit value. Unfortunately I don't have any number one blocks !
They were used all over the world in the 60's and 70's to teach mathematics to children. What I enjoy is the playful element involved in painting the surface of the blocks and then moving them around to fit - so many options !

hi Maggie, a colleague of mine is returning to Melbourne at the end of august. He collects art and I and some of my friends thought a piece by a local artist of Annandale might be nice. Would you have time to prepare a linograph/painting by then and what would be the commission? Regards, andrew
